Hidden with Christ
Verse of the Day, April 14, 2020
Colossians 3:3 CSB, "For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
Dead and hidden with Christ means we should take off our old self and put on the new life Christ died to give us. When winter ends, we take off our winter clothes and dress for springtime. If we have died to our old life, then we no longer need our old wardrobe. If we have died to our past experiences, then we no longer need our old wardrobe.
Let's consider our earthly members (body, soul, and mind) as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry (Colossians 3:5). We need to dress for success, as witnesses for Christ. Let's take off our old wardrobe. We no longer need to wear anger, wrath, malice, slander, abusive speech, and lying to one another (Colossians 3:8-9).
Lord Jesus, today, remind me God chooses to hide with you. When others see me, they should notice how you are confirming me into Jesus’ image. Lord Jesus, help me dress in your image (Colossians 3:10). Help me, before I go out, to put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Teach me to bear with others, and, just as the Lord forgave me, let me forgive anyone against whom I have a complaint. Beyond all these things, may I put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity (Colossians 3:12-14). Lord Jesus, let your peace rule my heart, your word dwell within me, and whatever I do in word or deed, help me do all things in your name to God the Father (Colossians 3:15–17). In Jesus' name, amen.
