Replace Worry with Pleasing God.

Verse of the Day, June 15, 2021

Matthew 6:28-29 CSB "And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don't labor or spin thread. [29] Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these."

Worrying focuses all our energy on what we cannot change. Faith directs our action on what pleases God. Consider the Garden of Eden. God created everything we needed and provided instruction on how to enjoy God and His creation. Satan shows up and asks, "did God really say?" Adam and Eve begin to worry about what they didn't have instead of enjoying God and what he had supplied them. The cure for anxiety is to avoid making material necessities our priority: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33 NASB95).

Lord Jesus, help me seek God's kingdom and righteousness instead of worrying about material things I cannot change (Matthew 6:33 NASB95). Lord, I know you will add everything I need to live pleasing to You today. Lord, help me continually submit to Your control over my life. Please guide me to focus my energies on Your priorities. Please grant me the strength to live right in today's difficult situations.

Lord, I know I have to work for food, clothes, and shelter. Lord, today I choose to replace worry with being faithful to You in all I do. I trust You. I ask the Holy Spirit to help me stay committed and loyal to You. Please help me schedule my time and energy in ways You approve. When working on the light bill, I can still tell others how You helped me pay it last month. When working on the house payment, please remind me to keep my promises to my family and friends. When thinking about what to wear, enable me to cloth others with Your love. Lord, not worrying about what to eat, I have time to call three people. I will remind them to feed on Your word and remain faithful to You and Your ways while our Lord takes care of the things we can't change today. In Jesus' name, amen.
